ParticipantHey everyone,
I know this isn’t the most cheerful “occasion” but unfortunately, sympathy gifts are something we all end up thinking about at some point. And let’s be honest, sometimes when someone’s going through a tough time, words just run and hide under the bed (if only comfort food would do the same for my hips, right?). So, when words fail, sending a little love in a box can actually mean a lot.
I’ve been there—standing slack-jawed in the greeting card aisle, wishing there was a sympathy card that just said, “This stinks. Here’s a burrito.” Since I can’t send actual carbs through the mail (yet…), here are some finds that have helped me send hugs from afar:
- Willow Tree “Angel of Healing” Figurine – A classic for a reason. It’s simple, beautiful, and perfectly says, “Hey, I’m thinking about you and here’s a tiny angel so you know you’re loved.” Sold on Amazon, and honestly, who doesn’t love a guardian angel when they’re having a rough day?
- Homesick Scented Candle (with customizable locations) – These candles have scents like “Grandma’s Kitchen” or “Home State” (yep, they have one for every state and a ton of nostalgia triggers). I sent the “New York” one to my cousin when she lost her dog and she said it made her feel like someone just gave her a warm hug through her nostrils. Also on Amazon, and so much less awkward than actually sniffing people.
- “The Remembering” Comfort Blanket – I call this my “tissue in fabric form.” It’s a super soft fleece blanket embroidered with words like “strength” and “healing.” I gave one to a friend during a hard time and she said it was her new “burrito of comfort.” Available on Amazon, and hey, nobody can have too many blankets.
Anyone else have go-to comfort gifts (besides, you know, showing up with Ben & Jerry’s)? I’d love to hear what’s worked for you when you want to send all the love, but don’t have all the words.

ParticipantOh, I’ve been there too, desperately wishing for a teleportation device to deliver comforting carbs! 😂 While science catches up, here’s a few whimsical ideas I’ve turned to for spreading love when speechless:
- Zen Garden Desktop Sandbox – For those who find peace through the magical wonders of rocks, sand, and mini rakes. It’s a great stress reliever and adds a touch of tranquility to any desk or space. Plus, who wouldn’t want the satisfaction of creating perfect tiny sand ripples? Available on Amazon!
- Tea Forte Assorted Classic Teas – Sending a cozy little escape in a box. There’s just something soothing about steeping tea and taking a moment to breathe. They come in beautiful pyramid infusers, making the experience feel a bit luxe. Perfect for calming the soul (and available on Amazon).
- Wreck This Journal – Sometimes, it’s therapeutic to scribble, tear, smash, and obliterate (maybe not *real* obliteration though 😅). This quirky journal encourages folks to process grief through creativity with prompts for destruction in artsy ways. Find it on Amazon and remind them it’s okay to make a mess!
- Cuddle Pug Pillow – I mean, who can resist a little pug-faced cushion ready for cuddles? Sometimes, a faithful fluffy companion, even if it’s just a pillow, is the best hug anyone can ask for. Available on Amazon for those times when dog snuggles are desperately needed but can’t be delivered via mail.
Let’s keep those virtual hugs coming! ❤️

ParticipantHey there! 😄 I totally get it—finding the right way to show sympathy without resorting to delivering pizzas by air (which, if you find out how, please tell me!). Here are a few more comforting treats that have been lifesavers when words have gone AWOL:
- YETI Rambler Mug – Keep those comforting drinks at the perfect temperature just like a warm hug in a mug! Great for tea, coffee, or even hot chocolate (don’t hold back on those marshmallows!). It’s super durable and available on Amazon.
- The Comfy Original Wearable Blanket – Imagine a blanket and a hoodie had the ultimate comfort baby. Perfect for snuggling up and disappearing into a cocoon of softness. Also, it makes binge-watching feel like a cozy adventure. Sold on Amazon!
- Knock Knock “All Out Of” Tear-Off Notepad – For those who might need some distraction or a little nudge in organizing their days. It’s a fun way to shake up the daily grocery routine and it’s weirdly satisfying to cross things off this list. Available on Amazon and sure to bring some order (or just plain joy) to life.
- Plush Warmies – These microwaveable stuffed animals are both adorable and functional. They’re filled with all-natural grain and French lavender, ideal for comfort and relaxation. The perfect bed buddy, and yes, you can find them on Amazon. 🐻
Here’s to making life a little warmer and fuzzier one package at a time! Sending digital hugs your way! 🤗❤️
